Uninterupted Firewall Protection
SteelGate’s unique High-Availability and Load Optimization (HALO) option delivers an integrated fault tolerant and load balanced firewall solution that maximizes investment and protects against single system failure.
High-Availability
Two or more SteelGate’s can be configured in a HALO cluster, each with the same configuration and each capable of handling both inbound and outbound traffic. A HALO cluster can be load balanced using
third party devices like F5’s BIG-IP, or with the Load Optimization feature of HALO. Systems in the cluster monitor each other’s availability and will automatically fail-over in the event of failure.
Load Optimization
The Load Optimization feature of HALO may be used to distribute traffic between multiple firewall units. By re-directing traffic from a primary unit to secondary units, the Load Optimization option
can be used to provide complete load balancing without the need to deploy a third-party load balancer.
Scalability
The HALO option for SteelGate can be used to build a highly scaleable firewall solution. New units can be easily added to a cluster to provide further capacity. Configuration of new units is
simplified by using the BWClient remote administration utility, which allows for central management and configuration replication between multiple firewall units.
Ease-of-Use
The HALO option is transparent to the network and requires no additional configuration. Using BWClient, the administrator can manage and monitor multiple systems simultaneously; settings can be
readily propagated to all systems in the cluster to maintain consistency
